Week #24 - Vacations [May. 12th, 2007|06:31 pm]

Sorry for the forgetting - I'm kind of on vacation and only able to use Larathia's computer atm, and haven't really been on much. So have an uninspired question!

Do your people take breaks/vacations? If so, what sorts of things would they do? A religious retreat or a week of doing everything they shouldn't? Is it unheard of, or is it done with regularity? Do they vary by person, or is there a generic vacation (like the mountains or the beach) that people do?

Yeah. As I said. Sorry. :) Brain is also on vacation.

Most people have an "Us" and a "Them" - Who in your world is "us" and who's "them" and how do the two (or more) interact? Pick a people you're focusing on and describe their foreign policy - what are the public views of the "thems", and how accurate or inaccurate are they? What is the stance of the government? Are the two the same or different? How do the people interact? What stereotypes are prevalent about the "thems" in the public mind?

Does your world have fairy tales? Or is your world the fairy tale? Are the tales well known? Are they incorporated into everyday life? Are there many stories building on the same theme? Or perhaps your world is beyond fairy tales. Do share the details!

M gets the gold star for reminding me. Prompter's prompter!

What gestures/words/customs are considered intimate to your people? What's too intimate (indecent) for public? What's titilating/scandelous but not going to be arrest worthy? What sort of interaction says "family" and what says "married couple" and what says "courting couple" or "just friends"?

Coming out of left field here, I know - how much/how often do your people sleep? Do they sleep in beds, standing up, in tubes, suspended? How long do they sleep? Is it a problem for people, or do they even think about it?

Pssst - Seki asked me to pass along that it's her week, and she'll be back saturday night to give us all a question. Be patient, grasshoppers. Consider it another day to play catchup. ~_^

In general this time, not specifics. Or rather, specifics to YOUR world. What's celebrated? Why? Seasons? Politics? Religion? Personal milestones? Pop culture? History? What things get made into widespread holidays and what things are personal celebrations? What's typically done for each?

Okay, forgive me if we've done this prompt before...my brain is elsewhere this weekend, but I at least remembered this was my week!

Do your people celebrate their birthdays? If so, what sorts of things do they do? Cake? Party? Presents? Candles? Songs? If not, why don't they?

(If we've done this, please leave a comment, I'll come up with something else!)

M gets the gold star for the week - burial customs, by request. After someone dies, what then? What happens to the body? To the people who knew the deceased? What customs, superstitions, traditions? Funerals? Wakes? Burials, cremations, memorials? Are there choices made beforehand or traditions that everyone follows?
